Thumbshots added to UK-Disco

UK-Disco now displays Thumbshots of advertiser's web sites if a banner advert hasn't been uploaded to their account.

Thumbshots are thumbnail snapshots of web pages that allow  visitors  to visualise web sites or preview links before clicking through to the site.

The Thumbshot service we're using is a 3rd party commercial service, meaning there's a cost to UK-Disco for using it. Whilst we want as many of our advertisers to benefit from it, we must balance the usage against the costs incurred.

During our initial trials, any advertiser ('Bronze' listings and above) who hasn't uploaded a banner to UK-Disco will have a Thumbshot of their home page added to their listing. Whilst we hope to maintain this level of service, we must monitor our usage of the Thumbshot service and the costs incurred. If our costs go beyond our set budget, only our paying advertisers ('Silver' members and above) will continue to benefit.

Why upload a banner?

It may not seem so important, but advertisers who make the effort to upload an attractive banner advert are more likely to have their link click on and attract visitors to their web site.

Whilst this sounds common sense, only 13.5% of UK-Disco advertisers have uploaded a banner advert to their account.

Banner adverts can be uploaded to accounts, free-of-charge, at any time. Acceptable images must be 120x90 pixels in size and can be either .JPG or .GIF in format.
